| | History of the Gulhane Medical Journal goes back beyond the second half of the nineteenth century. "Ceride-i Tıbbiye-yi Askeriye" is the first journal published by the Turkish military medical community between 1871 and 1931. This journal was published as "Askeri Tıp Mecmuası", "Askeri Sıhhiye Mecmuası","Askeri Sıhhiye Dergisi" and "GATA Bülteni" between 1921 to 1931, 1931 to 1949, 1949 to 1956 and 1956 to 1998, respectively. The journal is currently being published as "Gülhane Tıp Dergisi" ("Gulhane Medical Journal") since the September 1998 issue. In addition to its historical features such as being published by the military medical community and being one of oldest journals of Turkish history, the journal provided appropriate media for the articles of the famous scientists of the Turkish medical history, such as Abdulkadir Lütfi Noyan, Asaf Derviş Paşa, Fuat Kamil Berksan, Halid Şazi Kösemihal, Hulusi Behçet, Kemal Cenap Berksoy, Mahzar Osman Uzman, Osman Şevki Uludağ, Ömer Vasfi Aybar, Server Kamil Tokgöz, Tevfik Salim Sağlam and Nuri Ziya Paşa.
Gulhane Medical Journal has always kept in step with the innovations, and has become a peer-reviewed journal before many journals. Teaching staff of the Gulhane Military Medical Academy have, by the way, become the natural members of the advisory committee of the journal. After the declaration of the Committee of Interuniversity (June 11, 2001/1666) demanding an advisory board for national peer-reviewed journals, over 200 respectful university teachers from different universities were included in the scientific advisory board of the journal and their names were started to being printed on the second page of the journal although the journal has had an institutional advisory board. Being published regularly four times a year for 54 years, the journal has carried its respectful role among the distinguished national journals. |
