A Process of Change: How I Transformed Myself from a Biomedical and Disease-Oriented Expert into a Patient and Family-Oriented Doctor

A B S T R A C T 

Abstract
After participating in training courses about doctor-patient relationship, patient-centered working style and family therapy with a 3 year supervision from a psychiatrist and family therapist, I changed my working methods totally in the 1980’s and 90’s. I began to see and hear my patients and their problems in a completely new way. I found that a patient’s family and his or her other life situation are a part of diagnostic and treatment process. I also discovered that the doctor is not only a biomedical expert and a healer but also a biopsychosocial oriented coach for the patient and the family.
