Abstract
Objective: Operating theaters are such places where various surgical techniques and methods are applied, and advanced technological tools and materials are used; and also many risks affecting patients’ and staffs’ health-such as fire- can be seen all together. Fires may lead to cases of injury or death. The aim of the study of operating room nurses the knowledge and practices related to fire safety measures to be taken against the conditions.
Material and Methods: The research group consisted of 32 operating room nurses in Karabuk hospitals who accept volunteer to participate. The data were collected with face to face interviews. Questionnaire was prepared by the researcher with the accompaniment of literature. Evaluation of the data, number and percentage were used.
Results: In this study, 96.9% of the nurses have indicated that precautionary measures are taken against fire, and 75% of them have reported to have fire extinguishers and alarm system, and also 93.8% of them have stated that maintenance of existing systems in the operating room is done at certain intervals. Furthermore, 87.6% of the nurses have noted to have a fire extinguisher instruction in the operating room, and 62.5% of them have remarked that there are fire exit signs.
Conclusion: Finally all of the nurses have indicated that routine checks of the operating rooms’ electirical system are done. It has been found out that most of the nurses are knowledgable but inadequate about precautions against fire. As a result, it has been recommended to do an emergency planning in case of fires in operating rooms; to teach this plan to nurses, anesthetists, surgeon and other surgical team by fire drills; to train surgical team about fire risks and measures and to repeat this training regularly.

AMELİYATHANE HEMŞİRELERİNİN YANGIN GÜVENLİĞİNE KARŞI ALDIĞI ÖNLEMLERİN BELİRLENMESİ: KARABUK İLİ ÖRNEĞİ

Özet
Amaç: Ameliyathaneler, çeşitli cerrahi teknik ve yöntemlerin uygulandığı, ileri teknolojik araç/ gerecin kullanıldığı, hasta ve çalışan sağlığını etkileyen yangın gibi birçok riskin bir arada bulunduğu yerlerdir. Yangınlar, yaralanma ya da ölüm vakalarına yol açabilmektedir. Çalışmanın amacı ameliyathane hemşirelerinin yangın güvenliğine karşı alınması gereken önlemlere ilişkin bilgi ve uygulamalarını belirlemektir.
Gereç ve Yöntem: Çalışmaya katılmayı gönüllü kabul eden Karabük İli merkezindeki hastanelerin ameliyathanelerinde çalışan 32 hemşire ile tanımlayıcı olarak yapılmıştır. Veriler, literatür bilgileri ile hazırlanmış olan anket ile yüz yüze görüşme yöntemiyle toplanmıştır, Verilerin değerlendirilmesinde sayı ve yüzdelik kullanılmıştır.
Bulgular: Çalışmada hemşirelerin %96.9’u yangına karşı önlem alındığını, %75’i yangın söndürme tüpü ve alarm sisteminin olduğunu, %93.8’i ameliyathanede bulunan mevcut sistemlerin bakımının belirli aralıklarla yapıldığını, %87.6‘sı ameliyathanede yangın söndürme talimatnamesi bulunduğunu, %62.5’i ameliyathanede yangın çıkış levhası bulunduğunu ve hemşirelerin tamamının ameliyathanede elektrik sistemlerinin rutin kontrollerinin yapıldığını belirtmişlerdir. Hemşirelerin çoğunluğunun yangına karşı alınması gereken önlemler konusunda bilgili ancak yetersiz oldukları saptanmıştır.
Sonuç: Sonuç olarak ameliyathanelerde yangın durumunda uygulanacak acil durum planının oluşturulması, bu planın yangın tatbikatları yapılarak hemşire, anestezist, cerrah olmak üzere cerrahi ekibin diğer üyelerine öğretilmesi, yangın riskleri ve önlemlerine ilişkin cerrahi ekibe eğitim verilmesi ve bu eğitimin belirli aralıklarla tekrarlanması önerilmektedir.
